Detectives at the Movies
As always, rather than spend all our time just talking about these films, there comes a time when the best thing to do is to watch a few of them. I’ve chosen to feature a film from each of the detectives we’ve covered for a variety of reasons. It is not necessarily the best film in the series but it is in my opinion a combination of:
Accessible
Interesting
Enjoyable
If you like one film from the series I’d encourage you to check out more. And if there is a particular film you’d recommend share it with us all in the comments section.
The Lone Wolf
I chose Spy Hunt because it features Rita Hayworth and Ida Lupino.
Hayworth was a contract actor who had already appeared in 28 films, either uncredited, as Rita Cansino (her real name) or in other minor roles and was on the verge of being cast in much bigger pictures like Only Angels Have Wings and You Were Never Lovelier as well as in break-out films like Gilda and The Lady from Shanghai.
Ida Lupino was in a similar boat, having already appeared in 21 films though these were bigger and at times starring roles but in mostly second rate films. The year after her appearance in Spy Hunt she starred in They Drive by Night and High Sierra.
Keep an eye out for both Rita and Ida in Spy Hunt.
